Center Township: Second Grade literacy
For my Primary Literacy Field, I had the opportunity to spend 7 weeks in the Butler School District at one of their six elementary schools, Center Township. While at Center Township I got to spent time in a first grade literacy class. My co-op was wonderful and let me interact with the students as soon as I stepped into the classroom.
During each hour I was at Center Township, my co-op would split her class up into reading level groups so work on smaller group fluency. Towards the beginning of the field, my co-op would supply me with sight word flashcards for her students to practice and as my time there increased, she would give me small easy-readers that she would want the groups to read out loud and would also have me practice identifying rhyming words through small activities.

why component 3e?
My literacy field falls under the component 3E which focuses on demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness because of the different reading groups I was given each week. Sometimes I was with the highest readers who would easily identify sight words and read the easy-readers whereas as other weeks I would be given the lower level groups and the work that I would do with them would take a lot longer. As a teacher I need to be ready to be flexibility with the amount of work that I am going to get done with different students. I am going to have a lot of different students during my education career and I need to be ready to be flexible with adjusting amounts of work and need to respond positively throughout.
I am explaining to my students about the book Drums and the different activities we were going to do throughout the reading.

On my final day, I helped students create and brainstorm things that they were thankful for.

My students were very involved and were constantly raising their hands and asking question.
