what is floorplanner?
Floorplanner is a technological way for teachers to plan out the setup of their classroom prior to actually being in the classroom. It is important to take advantage of this tool because the setup of a room is very important for learning. Students should be in an educational environment that is comfortable, easy to move around, and inviting for students to want to learn and the use of this tool gives teachers a jump start in creative that atmosphere. The use of Floorplanner fits perfectly into Component 2E of the Danielson Framework. What the component talks about is organizing the space that is easily accessible for students so they are first off safe and encouraged to move around the classroom.
Creating my room
Floorplanner is a very simple website
to use for all ages and I had a very easy
time figuring out how to arrange the room.
The program first allows you to choose the
size of the room that you are working in
and then there is free reign to grab and
drop different elements that make up a
classroom. For example if you wanted a rug in
the room that you were creating, all that you
do is drag the rug from the left tool bar into
the classroom and change the dimensions to
whatever size is needed.

Creating my own classroom on floorplanner was no small task. I had a lot of ideas on how I wanted my room to be laid out, but after some thought I created what I believe is a setup that I can see myself using in the future.
Student Desks: Student desks would be grouped together in groups of 4 to create group interaction. Depending on the age, for younger students the teacher would be the one to choose where the students sit but as the students get older and more responsible, the students would be able to choose who and where to sit with.
Teacher's Desk: The teacher's desk would be in a corner where not a lot of action happens. I think it's good for a teacher to have their own space but not in an area where there could be a potential for heavy student traffic. Teacher should not be spending a lot of time at their desks because we they are to be active and engaged in their students learning.
Independent Work Table: This area is a good place for the teacher to pull individuals or small groups of students back for small group work. There have been many fields where teachers have had tables like this and it has been a great use of space.
Rug Area: This area is almost a necessity with younger classroom. There are many opportunities throughout of the day where a teacher can gather students in an area to go over announcements, teach a lesson, or read a story. This area usually includes a rug and other comfortable seating to students are comfortable.
