what does it mean?
Creating an environment of respect and rapport starts with the teacher. The teacher should be constructing an environment where students feel comfortable communicating with each other and also with the teacher. Respect is the biggest component for a supportive and successful environment. If no respect is present, students will not treat their peers well and students will be disrespectful towards the teacher.
It important to incorporate because students are going to be in classrooms for a long time and the earlier in a child's educational career where they experience a comforting and inviting environment to share ideas, the older a student gets, the faster than environment will be established.

Artifacts
Partner Work:
When students work in pairs, assign the pairs so students are forced to work with peers other than the individual's best friend. Assigning partners will help create a comfortable environment within the entire classroom because students will be relaxed in working with anyone in the class.
Suggestion Box:
This is where the students would be able to write small, anonymous notes to the teacher telling them things within the classroom environment that students enjoy or areas where students think improvement is necessary.
